What do I wear to the Christmas Party? It is a dilemma that has plagued men of the modern era. Do I get super smart, smart-casual, somewhere in between, shorts and a t-shirt? If you were somewhere around smart then you are on the money, if you are thinking shorts and t-shirt then you this article may be all the assistance you need!
From the office bash to a night out with the boys, thinking about what to wear for these festive get-together’s can prove quite the dilemma. Although people say it doesn’t matter, there is definitely something a bit embarrassing about over or under-dressing. A good tip that usually works is to ask your colleagues what they plan on wearing.
Careful though guys, don’t ask the joker! You don’t want to be the guy that turns up to casual drinks in a top hat and tails!
Although we joke about tuxedos and the like, many Christmas parties these days are quite formal and this may well be a requirement – particularly if it is work related! If you are going to wear a suit, the number one rule is ‘do not wear the same suit you wear to work!’. Aim for something a little less ‘workplace boring’ and a bit more ‘festive fun’. Dark greens, crimsons and navy are always a good bet around Christmas time, offering just enough colour to stand out but not enough that you stick out.
However, if you really want to stand out from the crowd then we would suggest a velvet suit. Be careful though, get this one wrong and you run the risk of looking like Hugh Hefner and whereas it may work for him – remember he pays all those Playboy Bunnies! Get the velvet right though and you will find the compliments flying in left, right and centre.
If you are looking for something a little more casual but not too casual then the turtleneck is the way to go. Most men can pull off a turtleneck, although if your neck is particularly short a crew neck jumper will do the job. Keep it simple, don’t over do it and watch those colour clashes. Keep it fun and keep it festive and you’ll be on to a winner.
