Let’s face it, growing a beard isn’t hard, pretty much anyone can do it. You might be wondering why you need to faff around and think about the health of your beard.
The truth is, a beard that you look after from the outset will be easier to cultivate and will look better, so what’s not to love? A little bit of vanity never hurt anyone (apart from Narcissus of course), so it makes a lot of sense to learn the basics looking after your beard.
Read on to see our 4 pro tips for a healthy beard:
-
Don’t rush to trim beard growth
During the first month of growing your beard, it’s best to let it do its own thing. Yes it might look a tad unkempt, but trust us, leaving it alone at this stage will allow you to get a better feel for the way your beard grows and for its natural shape.
-
Combat patchiness with a trim after 4 weeks
No one wants a patchy beard, so the best way to avoid patches, is once you have reached the end of the initial 4 week growth period, give it a good trim. Cutting your beard back and making it an even length is a good idea as it will also encourage healthy new growth.
-
Don’t neglect your skin
Now is a good time to get better acquainted with your skin type. This might seem completely alien, but understanding your skin, and using the correct products for your skin type, will help you to avoid bothersome itches and nasty flakiness.
-
Keep it hygienic
Like it or not, microorganisms will prosper in your beard, so it’s important to ensure that your beard, and the skin underneath, is washed and clean. Don’t use anything too harsh or astringent as this could give you more problems in the long run. We recommend using a good quality beard oil, like our own, Bear Grooming Beard Oil.
