For some, the aim of the game is to have a curly beard. If you are lucky enough to be born with a beard of the curly variety then you will know how great this can look, albeit with a little management. Not everyone is a fan of the curly beard however. Curly beards tend to grow in every direction instead of in a uniformed direction and this can look messy – this is also why a lot of guys with a curly beard will opt to straighten it.
If you are one of these men who is looking for ways to get on top of your curly beard, then these tips are just for you:
Comb or Brush
This could even be comb and brush but having at least one or the other is the most important element of this list. The comb is really effective at untangling your curls and coaxing your beard hair to grow in a certain direction. With consistent reminders of which way you want the beard to grow, eventually nature will take its course. The brush is a great tool for spreading your other beard products (such as your beard oil, beard balm or wash) throughout the beard, making it easier to straighten your facial hair.
Keep it soft
We have briefly touched on this with our previous point. The idea is the softer and more healthy your facial hair, the easier it will be to control. Keep it clean, and use a dedicated beard wash at least 2-3 times a week, with a beard balm in the hotter months and a beard oil in the cooler times. Whatever you do, do not use normal shampoo on your beard. The harsh chemicals in these shampoos will leave your beard hair dry and brittle.
Avoid dryness
Again, our previous point leads into the next one quite nicely. Once the beard has been washed and has been left to dry off a little, this when you should apply your beard oil or beard balm. Dry and brittle beard hair is almost impossible to control, often the only solution is to shave it off and start again – and nobody wants that. So remember to apply your beard moisturising product after your bath or shower and use your comb or brush to help spread it around.
Shape
The final step in straightening out those curls will be applying the finishing touch’s. Your routine of combing, brushing, applying a beard wash and a beard moisturiser will prime your beard for the shape and style. Depending on the size of your beard you can turn to a blow dryer to help straighten out those last remaining rebels. Using the comb and the blow dryer at the same time can be a winning tactic. You can even turn to hair straighteners if the curls really aren’t going anywhere, just be careful heating your beard hair for too long!
